What's a plate charge and why do I have to pay it?

Our foiling process requires the use of metal plates (also known as blocks or dies). A plate charge will usually apply to all foiling orders.
We take your black & white vector artwork and use it to manufacture a printing plate of your design(s). This is then mounted onto our foiling press and used to stamp your design onto your chosen item.
The plate charge covers the cost of manufacturing your plate, with the final amount dependant on the size of the foil print required, as well as the level of detail involved in the design, as this dictates whether we need to use magnesium, brass or copper.
As a guide, a single colour magnesium foiling plate suitable for use on a business card would usually be around £30, depending on the total print area.
Unless you request it, we retain the plate for future orders which would be exempt from the plate charge (if using the same plate). If you want your plate, just let us know and we'll send it with your order.
